Q: What brought you to our website? If it was another site, please let us know where you heard of us.
A: Saw your posts on the official forums and on wildstar-roleplay. Both appear to offer an active guild. Have some questions still on the community and such (below).

Q: This recruitment process is a great opportunity to get to know you a little bit. Please tell us a little about yourself personally and add in your past MMO experience.
A: I'm 43 (ack), married, web designer/analytics but with law degree, Rastafarian, vegetarian since 1982, non-smoker, drug-free, non-drinker, multi-racial, Democrat, roast my own coffee, keep tropical fish, and tend to listen to music while gaming.

I'm a native of San Francisco, bi-lingual in Korean due to living there for a few years in my 20s before they became the land of future-tech.

I've only dabbled in roleplay (not counting 2 decades of table-top RP that is, but its been 1 decade since I last did that), but like roleplay servers for the option to, and the nicer community.

I almost always play tanks, and expect to dabble in all three choices here, but most likely will be Warrior main, Stalker alt, Engineer alt-alt.

Q: What time of day do you typically play? How often?
A: PST, so generally after 6 or 7pm Pacific time, weeknight but NOT Fridays. And random times on weekends.

Q: What kind of character do you typically play? Tell us about your main character, and please list any alts that you will be bringing into the guild as well.
A: Almost always play tanks. Right now I have a warrior (Makeda), that is level 14 as I type this. And a stalker (Askala) that is level 9. My Engineer (Kichwas) is 6 I think. I might be remaking the stalker and engineer to swap their names before I get too invested as I greatly prefer melee tanking but like my engineer's name...
    - If I join, I'd be bringing those 3 plus my alt-alt-alt Esper Abyssinian that if I ever level will go healer.

A primary reason I play tanks, and if not healers, if that I strongly prefer playing in groups. Especially in instanced challenges / battles, but often also in the open world.

Q: Are you affiliated with any other guilds?
A: I have placed one character in another guild, but not sure if they're a fit for me. Once I find a good guild, I will be moving all of my characters to it. I see you also do FFXIV, and my character there is in a guild who's leaders all quit the game, as have I, but if I return to it, I'll likely be interested in putting my FFXIV character with the same guild there as 'here' in Wildstar (she's a Warrior, and I had a lowbie Scholar alt as well).

In general I like having all my characters in one guild, alts included. Makes community easier.

Q: What is it you're looking for in a guild? Why do you want to join OSD? How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you?
A: I'm looking for a sociable place. Prefer one that does not have lots of foul language in chat or voice. I've had to leave a gild before when some members started using the guild channel and the voice server for 'sexting'... And I left another WoW guild a few years back because my co-tank couldn't get past hello without using an expletive.

But I also need active. I tank, and that means I need people looking for a tank. :) I can be a bit shy about coming online and just saying "off to tank X, who's with me?" but on the other hand, anytime I'm just there and people need a tank for X, I love jumping in.

In WoW, I've been tanking since summer of 2007. Never at the top of progression. But often active, and through a lot of raids. I've had tanky builds in Guild Wars 2 and put them through all the content before I left... but my FFXIV tank is sitting at level 49.

If there's active opportunities for a tank to tank 'stuff', I'm there. But if a guild has all its tank spots filled, I find I eventually have to move on.

Q: We have found that guild members have a better gaming experience if they use the forums and the events calender. This allows you to get game information and join you guildmates in-game as a group. Members should RSVP for scheduled events as their real life schedule permits. Creating events is good for the community and is encouraged whenever possible. What are your thoughts on this?
A: I'm a bid fan of using guild websites. I tend to flood the forums of them with posts on things I've found of interest. Back in WoW I used to fill things up with macros, screenshots, addon suggestions, and topics about strategy. I've tried being the one to run the calendar and get people to use it more - as I love using the things... and its a hard task to get members behind going for.

Q: OSD is generally a "casual, do it all" guild, meaning we welcome players from all playstyles and don't limit our focus to one playstyle in particular. We welcome PvPers, PvEers, Roleplayers, Crafters, etc. For example, while we may offer weekly raids, we are not a hardcore raiding guild that requires you to raid 5 or 6 nights a week. We also do not consider any one playstyle to be more important than another, all members of OSD are equal. For example, a hardcore PvPer will never be considered "more valuable" to the guild than a casual Roleplayer would be. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic?
A: That's ideal to me. My interests can shift. I've been in hardcore raiding guilds and found I did NOT like the culture you needed to get 40+ people to push progression and try and beat other guilds on the server to firsts... Even if you're number 5 or 10 on that progression tree, the challenge to push up higher made the place unfriendly.

I'm not a competitive sports person, and that includes e-sports. But I will dabble in PvP sometimes. I would not survive a PvP guild as I'd be holding them back.

I dabble in roleplay. I grew up as a table-top roleplay GM. But I just dabble as I often don't know where to begin or why we are standing here 20 feet from that mob debating wine prices or challenging each other's faction loyalties over our devotion to killing that mob that, only 20 feet away, can surely overhear us. :) But at the same time I have had fun doing it...

Q: With the previous question in mind...we will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short on a particular role, or just need to fill up an empty group spot. For example, if you happen to be a tank built character, and we need to fill out a raid spot with a tank, we may ask you to come along and help out the raid. Or if we happen to be outnumbered in a PvP battle, we may ask you to come help us bolster our numbers and ven the playing field a little. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic?
A: With PvE stuff almost always OK with it. With PvP it would come with the caveat that I'm basically "Leeroy Jenkins" in PvP. I can make for a 3 second distraction though, and I have randomly been top in a battleground before but it was more of a "I mashed the right buttons on accident, sorry won't let it happen again. Trust me."

But not only do I not mind being asked, for me the whole point of joining is the hope that I will get asked - because I primary prefer my MMO play in groups.

Q: If you violate any rules defined within the gaming EULA, or the OSD Code of Conduct you will face disciplinary action up to and including removal from this community. Do you understand and agree with this rule?
A: I ran a guild in WoW from 2007 until 2011. I've been there on having to even report one of my members to Blizzard (we somehow got a part-time gold seller on his alts)... So yes, I get this and agree with it.

    Q: Is bacon awesome? Why?
A: Well I've been a vegetarian since before a lot of gamers were born. TO me no, bacon can get my stomach lurching.

Welcome :) I have a first cousin that is Vegan. I am one of the few family she trusts cooking for her. Our Grandmother still tries to sneek stuff in. What is your favorite thing to eat?

I'll eat just about anything vegetarian. When you've been a vegetarian as long as I have, you can't even really remember what meat tastes like, but the smell of it is difficult to be around. I never liked meats, even when I was a baby - for me being a vegetarian was just instinctive. 30 years out now, I suspect my stomach would lack the microbes to be able to digest many meats well.

So you can imagine with many meals, substitute extra firm tofu for the meat item. Works especially well in pastas, and in particular spaghetti where if you also add walnuts you get a "complete" protein and the tofu turns purple from the walnuts for added 'fun value'.

(you need firm tofu, the soft varieties crumble. Firm is sort of "Chinese" style, soft is sort of "Japanese" style.)

I do drink milk and eat cheese - and in fact make myself a latte every morning, which means my coffee not only wakes me up but is probably my "meat protein" for the day.:ninja:

If I had to pick a favorite style of food, I'd have to toss between Indian, Ethiopian, and Italian - and the answer depends on random moods... Though I'm also a good fan of Tofu-Burgers, Garlic Fries, and a Vanilla Milkshake. (so yeah, model of health there eh? :p)

OK I've gone ahead and approved you :) You're all set both here and for an in-game invite!

We have a huge amount of info in our new member thread that we like to have all our new members check out, specifically for our Wildstar division.

Also, we require all new members to complete loyalty quests. These are really just fun things to do with the guild and it proves to us that you want to spend time with everyone (and other members will want to spend time with you). Most of these things you'll be doing regardless, so it's not something out of the ordinary, but they are exclusive to the guild. The loyalty quests are mandatory if you want to be promoted from Cupcake to Dragon. For full details on this check out our loyalty quests page.

As far as an in-game invite, look up Xanz, Balerathon, Greenmonk, Bubbajay, or Bellix.

One last thing that we ask is that when you’re in the in-game guild, that you post your forum name (if it’s different from your character name) in the roster notes.

Hope to see you in-game soon!

Nice looking app Kichwas! Indeed, sorry for the delays in getting you an actual invite. Please /whisper me (or any of the officers) for an invite.

I was vegi for about 6 years, but I was so active and losing too much weight, and living on the east coast and freezing my butt off! When I got back to CA. I slowly reintroduced meat into my diet, and well what can I say, I enjoy that CA cuisine!

Glad to have you a part of OSD! I don't think I could ever be a vegetarian, but who knows. Hmmm no bacon...maybe I couldn't.

    See ya in-game soon!

Ok, looks like I need to edit my roster note, slightly. I think right now it says "main of Kichwas" on Makeda, my warrior. And one of my alts is in there now too as I joined a little but backwards in order, that being my alt "Kichwas" ( :whistling: ).

I've got some 'usual names' I end up with in these things, and its random which toon gets which, but those two are the names that tend to be my 'rotating mains'

Looks like I'll need to tank 10 dungeons for the loyalty quest thingy, but I'm off to read the new member thread linked above and such.

ps: Code of Conduct mentions Ventrillo but the New Member page has info for the Teamspeak server. I'm assuming the New Member one is the correct one as it has the connection details, and what with the homepage showing the people connected to teamspeak. :)

Also, remember that you can mix and match the loyalty quest. So you can do some combination of Adventures, World Bosses and Dungeons, each counting as 1 point towards the 10 needed. Just make sure to take a screenshot at the end of the run where you're told how well you did and showing a group roster full of Dragons :)
