In another thread we briefly discussed donation methods and possible alternatives/additions to Paypal. If you would, please post any services that come to mind, your experiences with them, and how you think they might be a good option for OSD.

Right now our current setup with Paypal deducts a percentage and I would like to circumvent that in the future if possible. On the other hand, Paypal is fully automated via an OSD account credit card which makes payments easy. Either way, how we can actually use the money is also a factor in the process.

    Thanks!

Okay, I couldn't find the thread before, but here was one suggestion I will be looking into:

    https://venmo.com/info/fees

In the meantime, I guess im just looking to get an idea on what methods people would be most comfortable with or willing to try. Our donation rate has been pretty low this year and if we aim to update our services to something more reliable then we are going to have to consider some options that provide a stediaer flow.

Should I pose this question outside of the Den for wider discussion?

Yes, it will remind folks that a good website resource takes some funds. Also some new folks may have some other ideas.

Yep, I'd say post it up for the general members. I've got no ideas, and maybe other people will!

There have been multiple comments over the years about paypal being inadequate as a donation method. Some input here would be much appreciated :whistling:

I really haven't used another monetary transfer service other than Paypal. Their services do cost, but it seems the easiest to use considering the whole OSD CC.

I dunno! I donated with paypal and I've never really had problems with them in the past.. I know they're awful for small businesses and larger scale donation drives (because their anti-scam stuff kicks in and is a huge pain) but for something like OSD it should be fine! Although I suppose it depends on how big a cut they take too! But I'm sure it's on par with most other methods of transferring money... unless you have a PO box to send a money order or something, but that sounds like a pain and risky and not worth the dollar or two it would save.

One guild I was looking at (before joining this one) had a website that allowed members to make payments directly to the webhost's account. Is there anything like that for this host?

Just to comment about the idea of direct donation to a webhosting company. I am very mistrustful of many websites and handling of credit cards and keeping things secure. I do trust Amazon Payments. I do trust Paypal. I won't donate to a non-major vendor method however.
