    Introductory post...

    Primary character class: Human Cleric.

    Backstory:

He had awoken from the nightmare once again, soaked from the cold sweat brought on by the haunting dreams. He could barely recall the terror that shook his soul, but something within him told him it was linked to the 'incident' that occured several months ago, when the dreams began.

Being a common worker, Velgan had never known who he was or who is family was. He knew only that he had been taken in by a loving family that had lost their own son in infancy. But he was clearly different, though he was human, he was a bit larger than most. The woman he knew as his mother told him he probably had barbarian in him, and that he looked a bit like the old drawings of the king of the tribes of the Dale, Wulfgar. But, he couldn't know his true lineage.

He knew he didn't want to be a general laborer for the rest of his life. Though his size allowed him to to twice the work of his peers, he got paid the same and felt cheated.

As he commonly did, Velgan was lost in thought on his way home from work one day. He was thinking about the premonitions he sometimes got about things, or how he could, growing up, know if a goblin or orc band was in the are just from the 'feel' of his spirit, but this day there was no premonition and not feeling of disdain in the air.

It was only when he opened the door to his house did he see the dragonborn manlike figure before him, his mouth and hands covered in blood. He knew the people he had called parents were dead and something within him sparked. A white light consumed his mind and he could not hear the words he uttered. He only knew somehow he was drawing on power from other realms across the fabric of space and time, calling to a god for help.

The dragonborn's eyes filled with fear and he tried to run out the door, but Velgan grasped him, not really intending to, just watching in his mind as an observer of the events. The light from his mind was erupting as a nimbus glow about him and the captive he held. He still could not hear his words, only a numbing hum that filled his being.

Then, to his amazement, the son of the dragon began to flame. From within, he filled with a wrathful fire. He opened his mouth to scream, but only fire errupted. When it was done, Velgan lay the charred killer down and he ran.

For three straight days, Velgan ran, his body numb to the pain of his cramped legs or his bloody feet. His mind numb from the power that had flown through it, and his heart numb from the pain of his loss. The night of the third day brought him to where he was and where he would go. While still watching himself as an observer from within, he could do nothing as he went unconscious and fell to the ground.

Several days later he awoke in a dimly lit room. There stood only one candle in the far corner, and it flickered low from the draft of his room's door. He could barely speak, but the movement of shadow near him told him someone was near. Then the shadowed figure spoke, "Rest a bit longer Velgan, you're body and spirit have been taken to their limit."

He found he was in a monestary, kept by a secret order of priests that cannot be named. He felt kindered somehow with these priest keepers. Though he was too busy in his mind to think about anything really other than what had happened, and why he wasn't burned. He hadn't paid attention to time in these rooms beneith some unknown building, he only knew he could stay as long as he wished.

But soonafter his stay began, the nightmares came too. The flaming Dragonborn, the numbing humm in his mind that day, the white light all consumed his sleep and woke him from it. It wasn't until, a few months into his nightly terrors, that Dalmar the high preist came to his room. It was here that Velgan learned, not of his heritage, but of who he was. His calling upon gods and unheard words of fire had troubled Dalmar, and the time had come for Dalmar to expose his being.

Dalmar told Velgan that he was to be a cleric, 'rare' among their kind. For few, according to Damar's understanding of the priesthood library, have come into the power of calling upon gods without being raised in the priesthood. Rarer still was the fact that Velgan had recited a scroll of burning he had never read. Delmar was troubled, but knew only what his prayers and the prayers of the others had confirmed. Velgan was a cleric, and must be trained in their ways. He knew too, that Velgan must go to the new world at Stormreach to finish his training with only his spirit as his guide. Lastly, Delmar knew Velgan must seek out and try to unite with the Silverdragons. Only in his service of a worthy guild, would his nightmares stop.

My Bio: I'm a 25 y/o college student (2 more years to go!). I started school a bit late as I wanted the work experience first out of high school. I'm married (2 1/2 years), and work at the local hospital.

I've always been a fantasy fan, but am relatively new to D&D. I'm currently reading Silver Streams by Salvatore.

I look forward to contributing to your group and to your consideraton of me as a candidate to your guild.

Thorgrimm moments later splashes some more ale in his face. "Did ya hear the man, what say you?"

Thorgrimm mumbles to himself, pity to waste such good ale.

Kril sees a crowd forming over a prone body and moves closer whilst sipping on his tea. Raising an eyebrow he asks, "Whats wrong with this fellow? He seems to be covered in ale and unconscious!"

Kril grimaces as he catches the scent of this fellows hair. Covering his nose he says, "Well met friend, sewer romp you say? Dangerous these sewers can be... perhaps this fellow here is a victim of foul play! Perhaps... some kobold dignitaries visiting the fair city of stormreach were misinterpreted as a threat by this fellow and had a phial of sewer water poured on him thus incapacitating him!" Kril ponders this a moment then says, "Ridiculous! who ever heard of a phial of sewer water!" as everyone wonders about the kobold dignitaries.....

    :p

Jesinia presses another small bag of herbs into Araevin's hand, "There is a special ingredient in that... it should remove most of the stink this time, not just cover it up. I don't usually use it, because it is very difficult to find, but I don't think we can stand the stink much longer."

"Kril, I think he's just drunk himself unconscious and naturally, you men just throw more ale at the problem."
