Acknowledgement: OSD has earned and prides itself on a reputation of respect, maturity and integrity. Please read the OSD CODE OF CONDUCT. If you violate any of these rules you jeopardize the reputation of our community and will face disciplinary action up to, and including, removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule? Yes Question Category - The GAMES I Like! Q 1: Which game(s) are you currently interested in playing with us? A: I came here after a brief chat with Sook by PM on roll20 as it seems he may be looking/has a contingent of players who would be interested in all manner of TTRPG's though I'm almost interested in dabbling in several MMO's (I used to play a lot of EVE and WoW but RL doesn't allow me to invest a mass of time in games atm so i tend to be a filthy casual a lot of the time now) Q 2: Do you currently have characters playing in game? If so, What is the name of your in game character and what server are they on? A: None im afraid but will return to some accounts or create new one for community events or just to mix in with the community outside of the TTRPG side of things Q 3: Guilds can serve many roles, and as with most things, expectations matter. In order to get a better feel for whether this is a good fit, we would like to know what you look for in a guild. A: The main think I look for in a guild in game is to have a mix of competitive and social gamers though I myself fall into the latter side of this now, a mature atmosphere as well, thats not to say mature as in the language used but more as in the attitude (IE. not throwing about blame and flaming people, helping people through critical view of their play and suggestions if they are wanted, I understand that some people prefer to just enjoy the game and thats great too) Q 4: When and How often do you usually play? This is so we know when to look for you in game and get you in the Guild. (Please add your time zone in the answer) A: As im applying to be running D&D games I'm thinking i may not be as regular a 'player' as many within the guild but once I have constructed a game I plan to run it at least once every couple of weeks (Preferably more) for either a core group or lots of different groups, whatever works best. Q 5: Tell us a little about your experience with MMOs. Which MMOs have you played and how long have you played them? Please share one of your favorite memories in a MMO you have played. A: I have played a lot of MMO's in my time, EVE was the first MMO that really pulled me in playing for around 7 years in total (There were some major breaks during that time), played a good amount of WoW too but now tend to cap myself during a new update and drop out again after a few raids. other mentions are Wildstar, Secret world, STO, among others. I remember the first time I had my Dreadnaught in EvE undock and jump into a sov 0.0 battle and how nerve racking that was (Being the most expensive ship id flown at the time and knowing if the battle went wrong I could lose something I had spent a lot of time and effort getting) luckily for us the battle ended in our favour and I was able to dock my ship take a cold shower and go to bed exhausted from the adrenaline rush. Q 6: What is the best game you have ever played and why? A: taking this to mean video games that's an extremely difficult question as there are so many that are good in their individual ways if i had only one game i could choose it would probably be something from the Xcom series I love tactical turn based play and the almost punishing levels you can push that game to, long war is pretty much hands down the best patch to ever exist imo and if you enjoy Xcom enemy unknown/enemy within and haven't used it I suggest you revisit it it makes that game from a good game to a sublime experience. Q 7: Are there any upcoming games you're interested in playing? A: Final Fantasy XV (Because who doesnt pick up an FF game these days), FF VII Remake, Last guardian, Shemue 3 (How long have I had to wait for this?!?) Question Category - Community OSD is a group of folks that has gamed together for more than ten years, many of us consider this group as extended family. The following questions help us to understand who YOU are as a person, not just a gamer. As we are more than just a gaming community we like to get to know a little about the folks that want to be part of it. Q 8: OSD advertises on various gaming websites, Facebook, Twitter, and in the games that we are playing. The following questions will help us know what formats are working and where we can improve. Who or What brought you to our Gates? A: I actually stumbled on a post by Sook in the Roll20.net forums, from there I send him a PM asking a few questions, he said my smooth (I joke its really not as interesting as it sounds) English accent might be a bonus. Q 9: There are many ways to engage and get the full guild experience with OSD. How often do you see yourself using the Forums / Discord rather than in-game to interact with the community? A: I'll probably peruse the forums daily (I get some downtime at work to do this) and I'll interact with the community during my free time quite a lot though due to RL it may not be the most regular. Q 10: Please tell us a little about yourself. No need to be too explicit. We don’t need your home address or shoe size. Let us know about your hobbies if you have them. Do you have family? Pets? Work? Do you plan to conquer the world by using Lucky Rabbit’s feet or some other crazy idea? (This is probably one of the biggest questions on this application as it lets you tell us about you.) A: I'm mid thirties and a single father to one extremely anno... Lovely 6 year old girl, I still manage to work full time for the county council (a government based body) helping with adult education, this means we help fund people who maybe missed out on certain opportunities to get a good education, we try to fill these gaps and help peoples employability. Beyond me and more daughter our extended family includes a cat who spends its time being aloof, another cat that seems to be psychotic and a dog who just sulks that neither of the cats wants to play with him. When I do get time to myself I tend to spend it gaming (Be that table top or video games) or playing my bass guitar, recently I've picked up a Sax but I am super bad at playing it so the less said about that the better... I tend to gravitate towards rock and metal music generally being a bass player and finding these the most interesting to play, though I do also enjoy a bit of blues and jazz. Q 11: Is bacon awesome? What form does bacon manifest in your dreams? A: Bacon is awesome, but my dreams are more about steak than bacon, beef is god among meat and I will hear no different about it! mmmm steak....
Welcome to the OSD Community ArrogantWorm!! An officer of the D&D Chapter will get your application approved and your forum permissions will then be handled by our Admin Team. You have joined our community at an exciting time. We are currently in the process of some reorganizing. Check out the latest Community Update recording on the front page of the website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. @Sook
Thanks Tink, I'll definitely give it a listen, you may also catch me lurking in the forums for the next couple of days so feel free to fire any questions at me too, I'll do my best to get you an answer as quickly as possible but as I'm BST timezone you'll have to bear with me when my willpower collapses and I fall asleep :O
*Takes the soap arching an eyebrow thoughtfully for a moment as he turns it over looking at you* Well at least it will smell nice in here, I'm sure I can find a use for this.
I used to be similar unfortunately not enough time on my hands to maintain it anymore, but looking to hopefully get at least a main on the go
Welcome man!! Glad you found us! I think from Twitter right? I'm just now leaving from work, had a crazy day... I'm going to go through your application and get things moving along! I too am looking forward, as a player, to get into some gaming with you! I can off the top of my head think of 2-3 other players ready to go. Looking forward to chatting with you.... be patient with us as we get things squared away for you. Oh.... in my signature below... hit the community update. Should be a good place to start. It will fill you in on the latest happenings here.
No panic I'm actually about to get some sleep to be honest (it's pretty late here) I actually found you on roll20.net as you had posted in the forums. Chatted with you briefly by PM there too. We can work out details whenever your all ready and get a game started up. 3-4 is already a solid sized group with enough room to expand if needed. Any questions etc feel free to fire them at me and I'll reply when i grab a second to look at the forums tomorrow.
@ArrogantWorm Welcome to the community we call home. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading your application. You've got a great sense of humor that I am sure will fit quite well within this group. The way you described your animals made me laugh. I could picture one cat sitting on a widow sill watching as the other cat runs from room to room for no obvious reason, while the dog, sitting in the path of the running cat, raises a paw every time the cat passes only to be ignored. Eventually he gives up and goes to sit in the corner. We've got a few folks here looking to dabble in the PnP side of things. Most haven't played in a long time or are entirely new. Please have patience as there may be quite a few questions. I've been playing with a group now for the better part of 3 years and still have questions. I will let you in on a little joke that seems to have found itself making the rounds here. It's been said that I smell. Although some of those folks saying that have never had the pleasure of meeting me in real life. Those that have know full well that I only smell of roses and rainbows on my worst day. The rumor spreaders are just jealous of that fact. Eventually they will get beyond that jealousy. Most likely when they hit puberty. One never knows really. This is a great group of people to get involved with. I like to call them my extended family as we have just as much dysfunction as any genetic family has but at the end of the day we are all still here doing our thing. I'm looking forward to chatting with you soon. Your smooth English accent will be a good compliment to my equally smooth Long Island Accent.
The application was refreshing! Seldonia hit the nail on the head there.... We're fortunate you considered us @ArrogantWorm !! Happy you did... I told the gang here... I wanna play some Table Top RPG.... But I'll only do it if the DM has an English accent!! It just...sounds...BETTER! I hate watching sword swinging fantasies on TV (aka the telly? Some English slang for you!) when the actors are American. haha No offense, U.S. ya know I love ya! *bows* I'm going to ask our IT team to grant you access to our domain friend! Ideally you'll be set up by the time you wake up. Browse a bit and let us know if you have ANY questions. Ask @Tink05051984 to upgrade your Discord status to Member as well (although she'll likely beat us both to the punch). Welcome aboard man!! BTW... love it or not... I'm a huge EPL fan. #brexit aside, I'm a huge fan of the English! hehe
ArrogantWorm's forum and discord permissions have been squared away. We are glad to have you with us. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
@ArrogantWorm Welcome to our gaming community. I currently play in 2 dnd 5e campaigns on Roll20 (Friday/Saturday). If you set up something during the week I'd be interested in playing. Especially if it's something other then DnD. I'm also looking into DMing myself. Either DnD 5e or Edge of the Empire (Star Wars game from Fantasy Flight Games)
Thanks all, and you image of my pets is perfect other than you missed the part where im trying to keep myself from spilling my coffee while the cat and child are charging around my feet (ahhh lovely stress ), As I cant vouch for the smell myself I may just hold on to this soap just in case (I am less confused about this now at least) though its honeslty just because I don't really like the smell of roses (..Seriously im being honest :/). I'll be planning on getting some games up and running within a couple of weeks, I'll make a post about a some ways of doing this and go from there. I will probably be planning to run several 5e short scenarios with mixed groups of who are available at the time (will shift the times/days about to give different people opportunity to play), and if I don't scare you off in that time and there's demand for it I will be up for running 1 or 2 long term games dependant on how hectic RL is my end. I welcome new and returning players (Means I can hide my mistakes easier ) new players are great to have and was a returning player not that long ago myself, I'd much rather be part of a growing community and helping new people in that community to facilitate that growth than be an elitist who shuns people for just not knowing how to play. that being said I am far from perfect and also make mistakes on rulings etc. but as long as everyone's having a good time that's the core of table top games. Thanks for sorting out the technical stuff @Sook and @Tink05051984 and al those others lurking. @Rhumor I'll mainly be running 5e (being the most prolific and wide spread system atm) if your DM'ing EotE I'd love to join, the system looks great but I haven't had chance to actually play and I cant run it because although I have an ok knowledge of SW's I think some of the more obsessive fans might find great insult in the gaps in lore I have , If all goes to plan and there is enough interest once I have settled in with a few games running 5e ill possibly move onto other systems. Other systems I plan on running include - Shadowrun 5e (Basically cyber punk with a dash of fantasy magic), - Stars without number (I tend to run this a bit like the firefly TV series) - Paranoia (This is best enjoyed with a large group (6-8 or more) and drinks, may also benefit with an audience to some degree so might make a fun event) - WoD/White wolf systems (Mainly I deal with Vampire, Changeling or Demon) I'll post soon with a layout of what I have planed as well as asking what works for people and what they want to try systems wise and what kind of settings they enjoy and go from there Glad to be part of the community, as for the smooth English accent I wouldn't get your hopes up too much
welcome, arrogantworm! im a bit late to the party, but thats ok, ive brought more beer! *drags in his keg of homebrewed porter and starts pouring pints* if i can find the time, id LOVE to join you at the table!
Anyone with beer is welcome at the table, well I'm hoping I can arrange it that everyone at least gets some table time so everyone is welcome, though it will take me some time to get a few things set up before the real fun starts, you'll just have to trust me I'm working on it
No rush man... We know you haven't even unpacked your boxes yet. Once you get settled, just stock the ice box, and we'll get the show on the road!
