Hello everyone! Q: What brought you to our website? If it was another site, please let us know where you heard of us. A: I've been researching Wildstar guilds for some time, but it was the official forum's "RP-Friendly" section that brought me here. Q: This recruitment process is a great opportunity to get to know you a little bit. Please tell us a little about yourself personally and add in your past MMO experience. A: There's a lot to tell and not much space to say it, so I'll stick to the highlights. I'm an over 40 gamer, I've been playing computer games of one sort or another since Tunnels of Doom on the TI-99/4A. I started in MMOs with EverQuest and played it through the Omens of War expansion, running with a guild on what was eventually the Tunare server. We had some success raiding but I mostly played for the companionship. I flirted with World of Warcraft during my time in EQ and finally made the move over during the Burning Crusade era. I ran with several guilds over a few years and finally ended up on Feathermoon, which is where my preference for RP servers and RP-friendly guilds emerged. I did a short stint as an officer in one of the guilds but did not find the experience to my liking (politics). The RP-friendly guilds I was exposed to demonstrated much more tolerance of different play styles and people, which I enjoyed. During my time with EQ and WoW as my "main" games, I have occasionally taken a month or more off to play other MMOs. Sometimes I even tried playing them in parallel, although that never worked very well. I've played EverQuest 2, Star Wars: Galaxies (pre-"enhancement"), Earth and Beyond, City of Heroes, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars (1 and 2), and dabbled in more than I would care to list here. I'm excited for the upcoming Star Citizen as well. On the out of game front, I'm married, have 2 children, and a full time job. I guess you could say that Wildstar will have some fierce competition for my time. Q: What time of day do you typically play? How often? A: On weekdays I generally play in the evening, usually after 8 p.m. Central time. If I'm off work or on weekends, it could be any time of the day or night. I generally play at least 10-15 hours a week, although I'm sure I'll do more than that in the initial excitement over Wildstar. Q: What kind of character do you typically play? Tell us about your main character, and please list any alts that you will be bringing into the guild as well. A: I have always been attracted to magic-users of all stripes, and usually play one first in any new game. I generally shy away from melee classes. My first character in Wildstar will be an Aurin Esper named Raini. Eventually, many alts will likely follow. Q: Are you affiliated with any other guilds? A: Not in Wildstar, and as I don't plan to play other games for the near term I think I'm safe in saying "no". Q: What is it you're looking for in a guild? Why do you want to join OSD? How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you? A: My prime concern when joining a guild is the community. Having a solid raid structure and PvP activities are nice, but more important to me is a group of people who enjoy playing the game and are pleasant to play with. I hate to use labels, but in general, I'm looking for a "casual" guild. I hope I can help the community simply by being around, being available, and participating in the boards and scheduled activities. I've found that once you start getting involved things generally take care of themselves. Q: We have found that guild members have a better gaming experience if they use the forums and the events calender. This allows you to get game information and join you guildmates in-game as a group. Members should RSVP for scheduled events as their real life schedule permits. Creating events is good for the community and is encouraged whenever possible. What are your thoughts on this? A: I'm all for it. One of the hardest jobs when you are organizing an activity is knowing who is going to show up, or if you will have enough people. At least in theory a sign up lets the organizer have an idea of the interest level. Q: OSD is generally a "casual, do it all" guild, meaning we welcome players from all playstyles and don't limit our focus to one playstyle in particular. We welcome PvPers, PvEers, Roleplayers, Crafters, etc. For example, while we may offer weekly raids, we are not a hardcore raiding guild that requires you to raid 5 or 6 nights a week. We also do not consider any one playstyle to be more important than another, all members of OSD are equal. For example, a hardcore PvPer will never be considered "more valuable" to the guild than a casual Roleplayer would be. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic? A: This is exactly what I am looking for (as I already commented on above), not least for the fact that I tend to do a bit of everything myself. I think it's the best way to not get bored with a game too quickly. You won't see me on any of the "realm first" lists, so I enjoy the company of like-minded slackers. Q: With the previous question in mind...we will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short on a particular role, or just need to fill up an empty group spot. For example, if you happen to be a tank built character, and we need to fill out a raid spot with a tank, we may ask you to come along and help out the raid. Or if we happen to be outnumbered in a PvP battle, we may ask you to come help us bolster our numbers and ven the playing field a little. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic? A: Considering that in most of the guilds I have been in trying to get a spot in a guild activity required the patience of Job, I don't mind at all. I hope though that even though each class in Wildstar has 2 possible roles people will understand if I indicate I'm not comfortable in one of them. Q: If you violate any rules defined within the gaming EULA, or the OSD Code of Conduct you will face disciplinary action up to and including removal from this community. Do you understand and agree with this rule? A: Agreed. Q: Is bacon awesome? Why? A: This is a trick question, right? The awesomeness of the bacon that can be spoken is not the true awesomeness of bacon.
Hey Raini, Great app Very happy you made it! Sounds to me like you'll fit right in. I've approved both requests, so you're all set! Woot! Feel free to explore the forums and poke around where ever you like. Here is a good place to start: http://silverdragons-lair.net/showthread.php?20924-New-Members-Start-Here! Cheers, Bale
Welcome! I think you will enjoy this guild. We have players of all types, from raiders to RPers to lazy, slow levelers like me. Never any pressure. I am not part of "the married with children club", exactly. I am in the "unmarried with children club" except my child is 20. Another nice thing about OSD, no one ever gets mad if you say "Hold up! Baby is crying, or gotta let the dog out." There are several ex-SWG players here. I just installed the SWG emulator and am having a heck of a time trying to remember how to play. LOL
