SMH it took about 3 seconds to find this. It's like dealing with my kids for Christ's sake. "Sean give me that hammer on the table right there" 3 minutes later "Sean, where is that hammer?" I didn't see it. The duplex has been booked for July 29th - August 5th. Here are the addresses. Yeah, that one is on me. I was too busy flying to look it up at the time. What time is everyone planning on getting there?
ill probably get there sometime between 6 and 8 pm. depends on what time i wake up. its a 8.5 hr drive w/o stops nd i usually dont get out of bed before 8am when i dont have to. saturday traffic is unreliably hit or miss, so i wont bother timing going through dc and baltimore.
thisll be my 2nd con. the first one we planned out meals ahead of time. there were also fewer of us. obviously we arent planning meals out like the last one i was at, so my question is... are there unwritten rules regarding food/meals (besides givens like 'dont eat it if its not yours') or expectations/traditions etc that i need to know as i begin to figure out what ill be eating and brining with me vs buying up there?
So I was talking to Vast earlier today and he asked if I would help take on the meal planning stuff. Ive done it in the past and I used to cook in the Army so I am woefully under qualified. I have a few plans for the meals. I think if we planned a few and left a few up for people to do whatever that would work. Also I wanted to ask if there are any dietary restrictions I should know about before putting a plan together? General meal plans I have in mind are Biscuits and gravy. Bacon, pancakes, eggs. Waffles (if there is a maker at the house?) Chili Cheddar and potato soup Meat Loaf pork chops Maybe re-create the BLT I did from our first con??? My partner and I will run to costco and pick up what we need as well as a bunch of snacks as well.
no dietary restrictions here i wouldnt bank on a waffle maker being there. if needed i can bring one. also, ive got a pretty good gravy recipe (unless you planned on getting a premade vat of it or have your own) also also have a, imo, fantastic pork chop marinade recipe cheddar and potato soup sounds very interesting. ive got a broccoli and cheddar soup thats pretty good so i can imagine what the potato will be like. not sure how fancy, or not, we wanna get, but ive got a recipe i just made here at home, its in the rotation, its a 'south carolina' thing (though i live in nc) called chicken bog. its a chicken and rice (and smoked sausage) thing. not earth-shattering, but solid.
Don't get me wrong I love fancy but I also don't want to be in the kitchen the whole time. Nor would I want people to as well. The chilli and soup would be from packets. Bit everything else is kinda just thrown together. I don't normally cook from recipes. If you would like me to pick up ingredients for you to cover a meal that's no problem. I also thought we could sit down and all have a conversation about what we think we should do for meals once we are all together.
Well, Draik is the chef and I am the bartender. I know I usually bring a bunch of different alcohol and drink recipes, but this year I will be mixing it up. (like the pun?) I will instead be creating different punches for us to drink, think 2-3 gallons of each one. Obviously, creating that much punch means BOTTLES of required liquor. I was wondering if it would be alright if I took up a collection once we get there to cover all the supplies? The citrus total alone will be over $50 to give you an idea. I am coming up with a shopping list right now. However, if most people do not want to go down this route I get it. Just let me know soon so I don't go nuts buying all this stuff and then no one wanting any of it.
looks mostly-halfway decent weather wise (so far) for the week https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/pa/lancaster edit... also, im definitely taking a couple birding trips (hikes/walks to birdwatch) if anyone has any interest in that make sure to bring your binoculars (though i doubt anyone does lol)
Alright. I went SHOPPING earlier today. I will be bringing enough booze to have 4 different punches. We are talking 2-3 gallons a piece. Enough for everyone to enjoy for the whole day/night. The total for everything was about $500. Not too shabby for 9 adults to drink all day 4 days straight!
