Now we have a flood of Chinese bots with spoofed IP addresses bogging things down. Awesome. These guys are a little more difficult to pin down, unfortunately. Thankfully our registration process makes it hard for them to actually do any damage.
Yeah, basically entire areas of China and Indonesia are banned now. Im going to keep looking into the best way to handle this, but from my searches it appears that we are definitively not alone.
It's pretty common, especially for some of the bigger name forum softwares. These bots are designed to attack specific systems and exploit them. We've been around for awhile too which doesn't help, it can take awhile before newer sites are located and attacked and I would say the majority of sites dont really last long term.
Very common, my old guild in EQ had its server barraged quite a few times throughout the years. The content of the spam threads were entertaining if you could get past the pita it was dealing with them.
