Q: What brought you to our website?

A: A post in the Guild Wars 2 Facebook Community Group by Kathryn R and Dennis Hughes. I was wanting to join a guild with those I've grown familiar with, if you'll have me :)

Q: This recruitment process requires that we get to know you a little bit. Please tell us a little about yourself.

A: Long time gamer, started MMORPGs with Guild Wars and offline with D&D Basic. I'm mostly casual focused enjoying lore, crafting, exploration and generally like helping, although I've also done my time in a regular raid team and enjoy working out how to defeat encounters. I've been involved with many sides of guilds including guild leadership, raid assistant and event planning (I'm not wanting to go back to group running.)

Q: All members are expected to uphold respectful conduct when communicating with other players and guildmates. This applies to in-game situations, our website and on guild/GW2 related websites and message boards. Intolerance for others based upon religion / sexuality / gender / ethnicity / etc. is not welcome. We are a guild of HONOR and INTEGRITY, and we reflect that in all public forums. The general rule of thumb is to treat people how you would like to be treated in return. How do you feel about this?

A: Acceptance and Tolerance should always be shown towards others. If there is intolerance the whole becomes shards causing guilds to fall apart. A guild should be a friendly supportive place, much like a family.

Q: In-Game Guild Status - Guild Wars 2 will allow characters to switch between multiple guilds as they wish while playing the game. The OSD Division Leadership Council within the Guild Wars 2 game expect that you will focus your time and energy towards this guild alone and will keep your characters as members of the OSD. Therefore it is an expectation that you will be 'representing' the Order of the Silver Dragons at all times while playing in-game as a member of this community. With that said, there might be a feasible reason why an ‘alt’ character or an RP character should be in another guild. Special cases and requests will be handled on an individual basis. What are your thoughts on this?

A: I understand the need for the guild to be sure that the player is available to the guild when needed and not have conflicting plans, although I believe with the right focus this can be done whether in one guild or 5. I only being in one guild counteracts the multiple guild ability ANet have built into GW2 and as has been found out recently, influence from the adventuring server will be counted towards that server, not the guild overall, so representation when on other servers is somewhat counterproductive, although, when running with the guild I see representing as a good thing. As I would be joining from Crystal Desert, representation would only be viable when on Isle of Janthir, otherwise it would be somewhat pointless. Although this would be happening regularly as I'd be wanting to group with guild, due to RL friends I would not however be wanting to leave Crystal Desert (the server only factors in for WvW)

“Yes, a guild can have members from any number of worlds. They will be making guild progress (e.g. upgrade and influence) towards their guild only the the world they’re playing in, though, so the influence isn’t shared between the different versions of the guilds in other home worlds. You will share a roster, and chat, and the normal social features with everyone regardless of their home world, though.”

Q: Ventrilo is a communications tool that allows our membership to experience the full effect of being in a community-based gaming guild. If you feel alone in game and you don't feel that much is going on, or felt the scheduled event experience was lacking or not working as intended... it might just be because you aren't using the communications tools available to you.
VENTRILO use will be 'Strongly Encouraged' for all players to actively use while performing normal game activities whenever you are playing in GW2. Even though it is not a requirement, it should be strongly considered for usage as a communications tool that allows our membership to experience the full effect of being in a community-based gaming guild.
VENTRILO use can, and no doubt will be 'Mandatory' during organized guild events, such as Dynamic Content runs and meta-events/dungeons, WvW, sPvP, group or team meetings, as well as other types of scheduled events if the event coordinator advises of such.
You don't have to speak if you don't want to, so long as you are on to listen to other members that might need help or guidance. With that said, we have several dedicated Vent rooms that allow you to sit quietly in peace if you so wish. All public discussion areas such as public vent channels are PG-13. Are you okay with our Ventrilo policies?

A: I have always used Vent and find it valuable for socializing and organising. I understand that due to children etc, chat needs to be kept away from adult topics and do not instigate these.

Q: If you are accepted as a member of our guild, you will automatically be placed at our 'New Member' position within the game. Please be mindful that this is not a single-player RPG game, but a multi-wing online gaming community. You will be expected to communicate, interact and support your fellow guildies, as well as ensure that you follow our Charter of Excellence at all times. In order to show your allegiance or loyalty to our community, we will ask that you perform certain 'Community Quests' that give you the opportunity to communicate, interact and generally become a member of our community (don't worry, they are enjoyable tasks that allows you to get involved with our player-base). Once these 'Guild Quests' are resolved, you will be raised one rank level in-game which allows you to access all the benefits of our guild. Are you okay with this?

A: Sounds like fun :) Sadly Oatmeal and Raisin Cookies are out of the question :(

Q: We have found that guild members have a better gaming experience if they use the forums and the events calender. This allows you to get game information and join guildies in events as your real life time permits. Do you intend on being active on our website forums and events calendar?

A: I love calendar systems as it allows me to find out whats going on at a glance and plan by it. Forums I post on, if a post is called for or I have something valuable to input but do skim them regularly for interesting or important posts.

Q: Once you learn how, we would like you to create events or RSVP for other scheduled events as your real life schedule permits. What are your thoughts on this?

A: I sign up for events as events interest me or bodies are *needed* In the past I've been a regular with this.

Q: Have you been playing MMO's for a while, or are you just getting started?

A: I'm a long time Computer gaming adict :p Starting at Guild Wars 1 BWEs and most recently Rift on Wolfsbane, which I left due to what felt like flimsy storyline.

Q: We expect all members to submit and update their characters in our Guild Wars 2 sub-forum 'Character Roster' (character name, class, level, possibly build, etc.). Are you okay with this? After reading the above content, why do you think it might be important?

A: Thats fine, it helps people arrange groups/events

Q: What kind of character do you typically play? Tell us about your main character you envision, and please list any alts that you know you will be bringing into the guild as well.

A: In traditional MMORPGs I often fill the role of Healer and/or Ranger

Q: What type of playstyle do you enjoy the most?

A: Support. I believe that a healer shouldnt be just standing around if not healing, if at all possible one should help out wherever possible.

Q: If you violate any rules defined within the gaming EULA, you will face disciplinary action up to and including removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule?

A: This is understood and I see the need for it

Q: What time of day do you typically play? How often?

A: All sorts of hours/days, normally within the band of 12pm - 4am PT and normally 7 days a week time permitting (stay at home mum)

Q: Are you affiliated with any other guilds?

A: Self Preservation Society (own, small casual guild on Crystal Desert)

Q: How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you?

A: Well I'm the sort of person that loves to help, I enjoy crafting, dont mind gathering for the guild if mats are needed and if extras are needed I'll often jump in, even to PvP if organised

Q: OSD is generally a "casual, do it all" guild, meaning we welcome players from all playstyles and don't limit our focus to one playstyle in particular. We welcome PvPers, PvEers, Roleplayers, Crafters, etc. For example, while we may offer weekly raids, we are not a hardcore raiding guild that requires you to raid 5 or 6 nights a week. We also do not consider any one playstyle to be more important than another, all members of OSD are equal. For example, a hardcore PvPer will never be considered "more valuable" to the guild than a casual Roleplayer would be. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic?

A: Sure :) It takes all kinds, if everyone were the same it'd be a very dull and boring place. I just like it when people stick to what they say they're going to do, dungeon etc and not bail which I'd hope no one would do without good reason.

Q: With the previous question in mind...We will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short a particular class, or just need to fill up an empty group spot. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic?

A: Sure, if I'm available and can do whats needed I'm more than happy to help :)

Q: We do ask that you stay active on the guild website as much as possible. We don't expect anybody to become a forum junkie by any means. But we do expect our members to cast their votes on any polls we put up, give input in any posts we make asking for opinions, as well as chime in with your thoughts when other members open discussions. What are your thoughts on this?

A: Good idea, it helps form community and organise.

Q: What previous experience, if any, do you have with the original Guild Wars?

A: 1 character completed Prophecies, 3 lvl 20s, Ra/Mo Me/Mo Ne/Mo (Blood), however the lack of jumping and lack of reasonable people to play with (small guild) meant that I didnt play that much as the henchies were just silly when it came to spacial awareness "Lets stand right under this here boulder landing site" X-P

Let the community chime in at this point. There might be a few questions. Here's a good opportunity to get to know us. We have some folks that post an intro and are never to be heard from again. This is a good indication to us that this player is not very forum active...not what we want!! So, we encourage you to keep tabs on your intro post in case a member has a question or comment for you. Or if you have any questions for us, feel free to post them up, and we will answer them as best we can.

    Welcome to the Gates!

Our leadership should be with you shortly to decide your acceptance, but in the mean time please take a look around the site and familiaze yourself with our Code, Ethics and other information. I'm sure you'll find it acceptable for dealing with a mature and responsible group such as OSD.

While we await the arrival of the Guild Wars 2 release date, we are currently very active on our forums. Hope to see you pitch in to the conversations!

I hope you'll find everything to your liking here at OSD!

From the point of view of the OSD, it is an expectation that you will be 'representing' the OSD at all times while playing in-game, and we will have an expectation that you will be based on Isle of Janthir so that you can also represent the OSD in WvW initiatives. If you plan on basing yourself on Crystal Desert and will be 'friending' over to Isle of Janthir (whenever they add that option), then it won't really work for our expectations since we will want you to be playing with our community directly... or am i misunderstanding?

Guesting does allow one to play with the community directly, the only thing it doesnt allow is WvW (I'm unsure about bank interactions, but that should be able to be circumvented by mail) It sounds like when you guest you can do whatever you'd normally other than WvW, it'd have to be something that would need to be tested, or has someone within your ranks already done so? Maybe it'd be better if we talked?

Understood, but when its available, I'm willing to work with leadership to make sure that its possible before considering an invite, which I understand will be after guesting is put up. My main concerns is if I'll be able to donate to guild bank, hopefully at worst I'll be able to mail stuff to guildies to put in.

I'm not sure whether someone who's guesting onto our server would be able to join the guild at all. I had assumed not, but I could be wrong about that. We'll see!

Guesting will not be available at launch and we aren't entirely interested in having a presence elsewhere other than the Isle of Janthir.

If you are interested in joining the OSD, by all means we're absolutely glad to have you, but you will need to have your main toon based on the Isle of Janthir along with the rest of the OSD members... so that you can effectively be a member of our community... especially in WvW. This would definitely be a requirement for membership here. I'll need to know if you will do so. :)
