Q: What brought you to our website? A: A friend mentioned it and sent me a link. He is also applying. Q: Do you plan to primarily Play FFXIV on a PS3 or PC? A: PC Q: What's your In Game Character Name? A: Alex Godsey Q: This recruitment process requires that we get to know you a little bit. Please tell us a little about yourself and how old are you. A: I'm a 25 year old histotechnician who works second shift and stay up later and plays in the afternoon. I spend a lot of my time in front of my computer or riding my motorcycle. I get along with most anybody pretty well, and seem to make friends with most people I meet. Q: Have you been playing MMO's for a while or are you just getting started? If you have played other MMOs which ones have you played before? A: I've been playing MMOs since about 2002 I think. I started off on FFXI and moved back and forth between that and WoW for years before I ended up sticking with WoW around 2008. Other MMOs I've played haven't really kept my attention after a week or so. I was a raider since T4 content in WoW. I wasn't really into it until the WoTLK expansion when I had a good schedule at work to actually participate in a decent guild. I was able to make friends, have fun, kill bosses, and get loot. I started off as a tank and swtiched to DPS full time because of my guild change where they had a solid tanking core. Through a friends recommendation I got in and was quickly recognized and accepted as a permanent DPS slot. Q: What kind of characters do you typically play or what roles are you attracted to the most? (Tanks, DPS, Healers) Tell us about your main character. A: I'll be sticking with DPS for now in FFXIV. I'm currently a LNC/DRG and also leveling monk as well, since it seems like an incredibly under appreciated class and I feel I could be very strong with it. CRP is on its way to 50 now also. Q: Have you been affiliated with any other Free Companies (Guilds) on Diabolos? If so, which ones. A: I am currently in a casual FC, Nemesis. I joined early on because a friend added me to it. Q: We have found that guild members have a better gaming experience if they use the forums. This allows you to get game information and join guildies in events as your real life time permits. Do you intend on being active on our website forums? A: I can be if it would be useful. Most guilds I've been a part of have mostly handled stuff in game or the website wasn't really that necessary. It would be good for organization since I could be anywhere and see it on my phone. Q: Once you learn how, we would like you to create events or RSVP for other scheduled events as your real life schedule permits. What are your thoughts on this? A: Sounds perfect. Organize it ahead of time instead of trying to herd cats into an instance. Finding a whole group takes hours sometimes and it's hard to find overlap in schedules. In WoW arenas, doing 5v5s was a nightmare because someone was always doing something. We had to get people to show up on a specific day to play once a week. Q: We expect all members to submit and update their characters in our website roster. Are you okay with this? After reading the above content, why do you think it might be important? A: To be able to tell who's who and decide who or what to look for when creating groups. Q: If you violate any rules defined within the gaming EULA, you will face disciplinary action up to and including removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule? A: Yes. Q: OSD uses Ventrillo. Our FFXIV Alliance also has access to a very large TeamSpeak Server. Are you familiar with these program? While it is not required that members be in vent/ts while in the game, it will be required when Raiding / End Game and encouraged for regular dungeons. You don't have to speak, just listen. Just having everyone interact will make the run more enjoyable. What are your feelings on this? A: Having participated in heavy endgame activities in FFXI with members who did not have access to VOIP was frustrating. There was a division there; we couldn't communicate as quickly with them and would sometimes cause issues. It's just way too easy to speak while doing something rather than to stop and type. Things are easier to explain quickly and reactions to issues are sharpened. Q: What time of day do you typically play? How often? A: I work 5p-1a EST. So any time after 1:30a to about 5a-7a depending on fatigue. Sometimes before work between about 11a-4p if possible. Q: We will be on the Diabolos Server. Does that match your Server Plans? A: Yes. Q: How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you? A: I can show up regularly within my time frames and help get stuff done. I always seem to run into problems in MMOs where I run out of stuff to keep my attention because I tend to get my own stuff together pretty quickly. Besides casually leveling more jobs or other solo ventures, I typically have issues getting groups together for some things because I don't like the idea of a PUG of random players. Having a decent sized guild of competent players could alleviate that and you could get to know people and be able to form groups. The event RSVP sounds perfect for this, as you could set it up on the forums and set a date. Show up and then knock it out! I'm not looking for a hardcore guild because of my life schedule, but I was once what I could consider a hardcore player. I still think in that way and try to do my best all the time, but I don't stress out about it. Q: OSD is generally a "casual, do it all" guild, meaning we welcome players from all playstyles and don't limit our focus to one playstyle in particular. We welcome PvPers, PvEers, Raiders, Roleplayers, Crafters, etc. For example, while we may offer weekly dungeon runs and/or raids, we are not a hardcore raiding guild that requires you to participate 5 or 6 nights a week. We also do not consider any one playstyle to be more important than another, all members of OSD are equal. For example, a hardcore PvPer or Raider will never be considered "more valuable" to the than a casual Roleplayer would be. Are you okay with this? Any additional thoughts on this topic? A: Sounds solid. Diversity is key.
Out of curiosity, is your login name an homage to the poem about J. Alfred Prufrock? It's one of my favorites. Welcome to the site, Prufrock! One of the division leads will be with you shortly to address your application!
You sound like a great fit with us. We have several night shift nurses along with a slew of night owls and I think we were still over 20 members on when I crashed last night. In most of the Afternoons, they've been running Ifrit Hard Mode and dungeons most of this last week. Permissions are approved and you now have full forum access. Please add your character name to our roster thread in the FFXIV section when you get a chance. That same roster has the name of highlighted officers that you should /tell to get an invite online (just tell them your forum name and that you were all approved) and we can get you a FC invite. Looking forward to have you on board! Welcome to the Order of the Silver Dragons!
