I currently play Black Desert Online on Orwen server; family name=Eiga and main character name is Naoka Q. This is the getting to know you portion of the questionnaire. Please tell us a little about yourself. (Hobbies?Family? Pets? School? Work? Any super hero or super villain abilities, nefarious schemes we should know about?) A. I am a PhD Candidate in biomolecular sciences and finishing up some research on breast cancer metastasis related to immune-modulating cytokines. On my free time I also do Kendo, which is a Japanese martial arts that is in many ways had similarities to traditional western fencing. I also have a cat that is a little insane, and a little busy family. Q. Why do you want to join OSD? What is it you are looking for in a guild? How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you? A. I was in a small guild but disbanded shortly after the leader left for a different guild. Mainly looking to interact with different people in a friendlier setting that is less anonymous than random people you run into. This morning I was ranked 17[SUP]th[/SUP] in wealth in Orwen Balenos 02 so I might be able to offer some money making advice to guild members who are new or are looking to try to be able afford some new equipment. Q - What led you to our website and ultimately to filling out this application? (Which friend? Website? In game ad? Psychic magnetism?) A. I posted on the BDO forum that I’m looking for a casual guild and Daas messaged me. I read the guild philosophy and seemed like it’s something that would be decent fit for me. Q. What is your typical game play schedule like? Please include times and time zones. A. My schedule is erratic but typically on the evenings ~ 8pm-11pm ish MST on Monday-Friday. Weekends depend more on family and kendo events so there might be some variations on that as well. My character is online basically 24/7 trying to maximize my passive income potential. Q. What is the best game you have ever played and why? A. I can’t come up with a single best game, but I really liked Guild Wars 1, which was my first exposure to online RPG’s. It had a lot of tactical, strategic component because of the limited party size and limited skills that can be used at a time. This made it very important to tailor your skill build to the threats you may be facing. Then I started playing Vindictus several years later and fell in love with its fast paced action combat, which led to BDO which on some senses it felt like Vindictus in an open world. Q. What platforms do you usually game on? If not just a PC, which consoles? A. Only in a PC, windows 10 Q. Tell us a little about your experience with MMOs. Which MMOs have you played and how long have you played for? A. I have tried many different traditional MMORPG games from WoW, Aion, Tera, Lineage, BnS, GW2 but I haven’t been able to really like them much. BDO is the only true MMORPG that I have liked and I started playing in the JP server a year ago, and been playing in NA since Conquerer’s headstart launch. I think BDO offers a much different player experience that is different than most MMORPGs in that it has no true end game activities like daily raids/dungeons, and has an open sandboxy concept that I really like. Another thing that I REALLY like about BDO is the extensive crafting/gathering/node system… something that I have never seen in any other MMO that I have played so far. Q. What is your favorite part of an MMO and why? (Leveling, PvP, raiding, community, roleplaying, crafting, achievements, exploration, etc) A. Just being able to do a little bit of everything is a lot of fun. Some grinding, some crafting, some exploring… but I also just like to make money in games. Q. Are there any future MMO's or multiplayer games you're interested in playing? A. Not at the moment. I do still play other games concurrently with BDO from time to time such as Vindictus and Star Trek online but they don’t require much time at all. Q. OSD is more than just a guild in a single game. We are a community of gamers that come together through the forums and Teamspeak. Do you plan on being active on the forums and use TS? What are your thoughts on using event calendars on the forums to coordinate guild events? A. I think it’s great. Being able to talk about the game online in other places other than the BDO forum which is filled with toxic vitriol, or the reddit pages which also feel spammy and impersonal. A calendar would also be great so that I can coordinate with what free times I have and be able to schedule being active on the game on those times. Q. OSD has earned and prides itself on a reputation of respect, maturity and integrity. Please read the OSD CODE OF CONDUCT. If you violate any of these rules you jeopardize the reputation of our community and will face disciplinary action up to, and including, removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule? A. Yes I agree. I think having strict rules on code of conduct is important to prevent things from getting out of hand or allow toxic people from ruining other people’s fun. Q. We will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time, you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short on a particular role or just need to fill up an empty group spot. For example, if you happen to be a tank built character, and we need to fill out a raid spot with a tank, we may ask you to come along and help out the raid. Or if we happen to be outnumbered in a PvP battle, we may ask you to come help us bolster our numbers and even the playing field a little. What are your thoughts on this topic? A. Despite having a lot of money, I currently don’t have that great of equipment because I don’t grind much, (Still level 51). Just a Blue +15 Yuria staff, +8 Agerian armor, +7 steel dagger, Bares accessories, so sitting at about 98 AP/85 DP. But if you need help for Node wars, or grinding, or anything like that I would be more than happy to come in a help if I can. But at the same time I may buy better equipment if I end up spending more time doing combat related activities. Q. Pretend you are raiding with the guild and after the final boss fight an uber fantastic, stupendous, ultra rare, sparkly item drops. Who do you think should receive this item and why? A. Typically I think a dice roll would suffice, but in some cases, I think a party has a clear MVP in which case the MVP should deserve to drop if the rest of the party agrees. Q. Is bacon awesome? What form does bacon manifest in your dreams? A. Bacon is an amazing type of food. Just eat as a crispy slow cooked item from the oven… or take the grease and add it to coffee for some bacon fragrance in the coffee… or BLT, or just a pile of bacon. When cooked properly, it’s not too high in fat, and high in protein so it’s a health food J.
