    Hail and well met, all.

I came accross the OSD by searching for a guild to join for AoC. By good fortune, it seems you also are a presence in DDO as well. I created characters on the two servers, since those were not ones I played on, and leveled a bit before registering and posting here.

    - What brought you to our website?

While looking for a RP guild to join in AoC, I did a GuildPortal search and originally found a guild that was an ally of yours. Going through that guild's forums, I found a bit of contentiousness there that made me leary of wanting to get invovled, but I found the Order through the Allies list of that guild.

    - This recruitment process requires that we get to know you a little bit. Tell us about yourself.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have been gaming since the early 80's. I enjoy quite a few games, mainly in the superhero or fantasy genre. I also have played and do play an assorment of MMO's, starting with City of Heroes and going on through EQ2, SWG, WAR, WoW, DDO, and CO.

    - Do you enjoy Role Playing in-game?

I do as long as it's all concentual and doesn't impact the gameplay. I have no problem RPing while on a mission or quest as long as we don't wipe a few dozen times becasue we're paying more attention to the RP than the mobs :) Also, if it's a mixed group,RP can be delayed so that it's not forced upon players that don't want to RP or feel like it at that particular time.

    - Which online game interests you? (AoC or DDO) We expect all of our AoC players to use Ventrilo while they are in game. Is this ok with you?

I am interested in both. Both games have had their ups and downs and I've left both before. I left DDO for a while becasue I feel that once Turbine had the LOTR license, DDO got pushed to the side, developmentally speaking. I did return shortly before it went free to play, although I don't log in much time there right now. A solid guild and group of friends to play with can change that as I've always felt DDO has some superior gameplay concepts, especially giving rogues more to do besides just position and DPS backstabbing. AoC I left soon after launch becasue of the initial issues the game had and becasue my brand new (at the time) computer could just barely handle the graphics requirements. With a new computer that can more than handle graphics issues for the next year or so, I decided to give AoC another try since, like DDO, it did have some nice gameplay features and having a good guild to play with would add to the overall experience.

I am fine with using Ventrillo.

    - Do you intend on being active on our website forums and Events Calendar?
I am not a very active forum participant, but I do put in my input on guild-wide issues and say hello to new members. Becasue of my work schedule, I try to be as active in guild events as I can be, but that would be mainly on Fridays and Saturdays.

    - Once you learn how, we want you to create events or RSVP other scheduled events as your RL schedule permits. What are your thoughts on this? How frequent do you figure on creating an event for others to participate in? You comfortable promoting these events in the Ventrilo and/or guild chat channels?

Having been a table top GM for a few decades now, I have no problem with this. I could probably create a guild-wide event every 2 months or so, as well as come up with some recurring event ideas that may not be in place yet. Becasue I am more active very late at nights or mid-mornings, I can also help provide RP, gameplay, and events for memebers who also have non-standard schedules

    - Have you been playing MMO's for a while or are you just getting started?

I've been playing MMO's for several years now.

    - Do you feel comfortable with the website and it's resources?

I do. It has a good layout and is well-organized.

    - We expect all players to submit and update their characters in our website ROSTER. Are you ok with this? After reading the above content, why do you think it might be important?

I'm fine with that. It's neccessary so that guild members know who is capable of what and who would be good choices for grouping with.

    - What kind of character do you typically play? Tell us about your main character?

I prefer to play characters who have ties with nature, sucha as rangers or druids. Pet classes are also a favorite of mine, as well as support/ranged damage. I can pretty much play any character type and the actual 'character' is more key to my enjoyment than the role.

Valdir is a huntsman, a warrior of the wilderness who was raised on the Vanir side of the Eiglophian Mountains. Born of the union of a Vanir jarl and a Cimerrian shamaness, Valdir was named for the howling of wolves that heralded his birth (Valdir is Nordic for 'wolf'). Learning both the arts of war and the lore of nature from his parents, Valdir became a superlative hunter for his tribe, consitantly bringing forth the fattest bucks and largest boars for feasts when he started going forth on his own at 14. By 16, he was leading men of his tribe in raids against the Aesir and Cimmerian tribes other than his mother's. Living near the border of the Picts also meant repelling many raids from thier savage southern neighbors. His skill at hunting and raiding earned him many kennings among his tribe such as Wolf Brother, the Blood Wolf, and the Red Hunter. There was no doubt that Valdir would be the jarl of the tribe after his father passed on.

But doom came to the tribe on the wedding feast of Valdir's younger sister. While the village was besotted with mead and revelry, a force of slavers descended. Aided in their infiltration by Pictish scouts, the slavers hit like an armored wave, putting the village to the torch and the resisting menfolk to the sword. Valdir killed many before succumbing to his wounds, but the slavers saved him from death. Valdir's wounds were poorly attended to and he was bound in thick bearskin rawhide for the trip back to the coast. The surviving women, children, and men were loaded into a cargo ship while Valdir was chained to an oar by his hands and the decking by his feet. The slave master sneered that Valdir was alive becasue he was a special consignment, one that was to be brought before his new master broken, but alive. Valdir swore that the only breaking to be done would be to the slavemaster's skull.

Days at the oar turned into weeks and months, the time blurring together from the Black Lotus extract used to drug Valdir's meager food and water. At various ports of call, Valdir's kinsmen were sold off until he was the only one of his tribe remaining on the ship. His body grew thin and weak from the narcotic and the near starvation, but the thought of vengance burned bright and kept Valdir going. Finally, his prayers to Ymir and Njord were answered and a great storm overtook the ship, scuttling it. In the chaos, Valdir's station broke free and he blacked out, only to awaken on one of the Barachan isles. Salvaging what he could from the remains of the wreck, Valdir found a hammer and iron spikes heavy enough to break his manacles. He spent weeks on the island, recouperating his health and strength. Eventually, a small group of pirates came accross Valdir while they were searching among the wreckage for valuables. When they tried to take Valdir captive and enslave him, the hunter killed them in a mighty struggle. Armed with their gear and using their small boat for transport, Valdir made his way to Tortage. He now seeks passage back to Hyborea to hunt down the man responsible for the raid on his village and bring the cold wrath of the Vanir upon him.

    - If you violate ANY rules defined within the gaming EULA you will be removed from this community. You ok with this?

    I am.

    - What time of day do you typically play? How often?

My current work schedule is a late night shift, meanign that I generally play around Midnight or so Pacific time or in the mid mornings. Saturdays I have a recurring tabletop game, so Fridays are the days I have the most availability for a day off.

    - Are you affiliated with any other guilds?

Not currently in either DDO or AoC

    - How do you think you can best help this community?

I can best help the community by helping to provide gameplay and events at 'off peak' hours.

    - Which of the characters listed in your forum signature (see STEP 3) do you play the most? What level is your main character?

I'm focusing mainly on Valdir right now and am rapidly approaching lvl 20. I have a Collectors Edition of AoC shipping to me now, so I should be able to go outside Tortage early next week.

    - We are an Argonnessen Server guild within Dungeons and Dragons Online. Do you play on this server? For Age of Conan we play on the Cimmeria server. Do you play on this server?

Yes, I have characters on both servers now.

    - For Age of Conan, we require that your are familiar with our Guild Structure and Advancement described here (Age of Conan Guild Advancement). Are your prepared for your journey to Vassal? Tell us what you think of this quest ahead of you?

I understand the requirements for Vassalage, but I am very unfamiliar with the game content beyond Tortage, including gathering resources. From reading the various open forum posts, I'm sure that there will be members more than happy to explain how gathering and crafting works, as well as teaching me the finer points of playing on a PvP server in terms of where likely spots to find KOS targets that are level appropriate to me would be. Of course, it would be the easiest thing in the world to get to 20, hide out on White Sands Isle, and kill low-level members of KOS guilds, but that would hardly be fair or in keeping with the ideals that this guild have adopted.

If there are any other questions, just ask me :)

Edit: I just realized that there's a Valdar user name on the forums here and not on DDO. Sorry about that confusion. I can always change the DDO name.

Well, it'll learn me to check all of the roster first instead of just checking the AoC one and assuming the name is all clear :)

To make things easier on everyone, I should probably just do a new Username and names for my characters :) I should have done a more thorough scan of usernames, really.

No problem Valdir, nobody is as original as they hope to be on the internet. :D

Its up to you if you want to change the name, it could definitely get a little confusing but it wouldnt be the first time.

However if you have already put considerable time into your characters, its hard for me to ask for you to reroll hehe. If its not a big deal it might alleviate some confusion though. Its up to you! Just let us know either way

Hahahah I think it's great. Chalk it up to the old saying, "Great minds think alike" and leave it at that.

If we had twins, then one could get into trouble and the other one could get him out of it. That is what twins do. They also start trouble and then blame the other one. We could just sit back and enjoy it. LOL

hmmm, I wonder if they look alike?

    Thanks :)

On the naming issue, I think I'll keep the same name for now and switch if it becomes too much of a problem. I'll re-roll on DDO to get a new character name and I don't think there will be much of a problem with AoC name confusion.

However, I tried to upgrade my AoC account from the trial and hit a bit of a snag. I have a physical copy of the game being sent to me, but I wanted to upgrade to get some of the spiffy offers. Unfortuantely, the only credit card I have is my bank card and apparently, they don't allow overseas transactions, like paying Funcom for the upgrade. So, my account is locked becasue I can't revert back to the trial status and I can't pay for an upgrade online. So I'm stuck until my copy of the game arrives.

    wow...bummer

    see you soon though,

You can keep up with the lore and forums while you wonder where your game copy is. You are most welcome to get to know the Silver Dragons on the OSD website. They only play at video games anyway. I think they really live in the forums.

    Strange...the day I realized that.

Well, I've gotten things straightened out with my account and everything is up to speed. I'm almost to 20 and about ready to leave Tortage.

Oh, and I know why Empire of Stygia is KOS. Kept having a *group* of them, all level 24 or so, with a Necromancer gaking me and others on White Sands island. I mean come on...a 10 level difference isn't enough of an advantage for you? You really need to bring some buddies for back-up?
