Q. Which game(s) are you currently interested in playing with us, and do you currently have characters playing in game? If so what are their names? Which realm? Which platform? A. Final Fantasy XIV on PC. My character is Tough Enuf on Diabolos. I made two other characters but at this time I don't remember their names. I have no plans to play them. I started them before my son told me he was playing on Diabolos. Q. This is the getting to know you portion of the questionnaire. Please tell us a little about yourself. (Hobbies?Family? Pets? School? Work? Any super hero or super villain abilities, nefarious schemes we should know about?) A. I am an older professional (doctor) who enjoys playing games in my spare time. I find it relaxing, challenging and thought provoking. I started years ago with World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online. I have 4 children. The two youngest are still at home. They are online game players. We don't always play the same games but it gives me something to talk to them about. We started gaming together when they were young. We played Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 on the home LAN as well as several similar games. Currently, I am in Afghanistan working for an international NGO. While this means I will sometimes be off in timings on weekdays, my weekend mornings correspond well with nights in the Eastern time zone in NA. Pets are part of our lives with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Both dogs are large golden doodles. I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada when I am home. Q. Why do you want to join OSD? What is it you are looking for in a guild? How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you? A. I reviewed the FF XIV lodestone for different free companies. The wording for OSD appealed to me. I am looking for a mature, casual and veteran guild. I enjoy doing casual dungeon runs and raiding. Casual does not mean sloppy but means that I am not hard core. I enjoy success and failure. I like challenging game playQ - What led you to our website and ultimately to filling out this application? (Which friend? Website? In game ad? Psychic magnetism?) A. I was looking for a free company to join. I reviewed the FF XIV forums and liked what I read. I decided to apply.Q. What is your typical game play schedule like? Please include times and time zones. A. My game times are weekends mainly. Luck that my morning hours correspond to the evening in the EDT in North America Q. What is the best game you have ever played and why? A. The best MMO game I played was Lord of the Rings Online. It was the best because of the people I played with. I played with the same group for 2 years. We were a casual group of 8-10 players. We were not anywhere near the best. We failed as much as we succeeded but we always had fun. We played many times into the early morning hours. There may be better games with nice graphics but MMOs are about the friends you make and not always the levels Q. What platforms do you usually game on? If not just a PC, which consoles? A.I only play on the PC. Q. Tell us a little about your experience with MMOs. Which MMOs have you played and how long have you played for? A. I started with MMOs when my younger boys started playing World of Warcraft - Burning Crusade. I moved on to playing Lord of the Rings Online because they liked to PVP and I preferred PVE. I have played many different MMOs. I played RIFT for several months. I played the original FF XIV and then FF XIV ARR. I played ARR for several months on release. I played EVE Online twice, Mortal Online, Darkfall, SWTOR, Korean beta of Black Desert Online and several others. I never stayed long with many of the games since the games did not interest me. I still play World of Warcraft with my son. Q. What is your favorite part of an MMO and why? (Leveling, PvP, raiding, community, roleplaying, crafting, achievements, exploration, etc) A. My favourite part of MMOs is dungeon runs and raiding. I like the challenge. I like having to figure out how to beat the dungeon and the boss. Q. Are there any future MMO's or multiplayer games you're interested in playing? A. I already signed up for Chronicles of Elyria kickstarter. I was thinking about Black Desert Online again but the NA version. Q. OSD is more than just a guild in a single game. We are a community of gamers that come together through the forums and Teamspeak. Do you plan on being active on the forums and use TS? What are your thoughts on using event calendars on the forums to coordinate guild events? A. I plan on using Teamspeak. I have used many of the chat system in the past. Event calendars are excellent. I can find what I need quickly. Forums are something I read a lot but I do not post much. Q. OSD has earned and prides itself on a reputation of respect, maturity and integrity. Please read the OSD CODE OF CONDUCT. If you violate any of these rules you jeopardize the reputation of our community and will face disciplinary action up to, and including, removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule? A. Yes. It is essential to a good guild. Q. We will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time, you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short on a particular role or just need to fill up an empty group spot. For example, if you happen to be a tank built character, and we need to fill out a raid spot with a tank, we may ask you to come along and help out the raid. Or if we happen to be outnumbered in a PvP battle, we may ask you to come help us bolster our numbers and even the playing field a little. What are your thoughts on this topic? A. First of all I am terrible at PVP. I would not want to rely on my skills - think of me as cannon fodder on the battlefield. However I am always willing to participate just don't expect much. I am always willing to do dungeons and raids in any capacity. Q. Pretend you are raiding with the guild and after the final boss fight an uber fantastic, stupendous, ultra rare, sparkly item drops. Who do you think should receive this item and why? A. Well I would hope that this was already discussed prior to starting the raid. It would prevent this problem from happening. Second thing would be to see what the guild rules are around drops. Lastly, it is only a game and I can always do without it if someone really wants it. Q. Is bacon awesome? What form does bacon manifest in your dreams? A. I am Canadian. Bacon is awesome not matter what form it comes in.
Awesome and well thought out application. Thank you for sharing and seeking us out. We used to have many overseas players especially during the 2.0 patches, but more recently for the 3.0 series our Division has become more NA focused. With the Next Patch due to come out next week, I'm expecting we will see a good return of players as well. I just approved your forum permissions so you should be good to go in exploring things here but make sure you stop by the FFXIV division area when you get a chance, especially this link, for TS info. I would recommend doing the in game application so we can get you in the FC the fastest. If questions head over to our FC House, Ward 1 Mists - NE side, Big Mog House. There is usually someone around there. Also make sure you sign up on our Drawing for Loot. Should be one of the sticky items in the main FFXIV area. Welcome to OSD! Doc
