Hello to all OSD recruiters reading this! This is my official application for membership into OSD. I found my way here via the FFXIV forums and am looking into getting the expansion currently. Just discovered how much fun FFXIV was, and am really liking the game so far. New player and a lot to learn, but I really like the feel of this FC already. Q. Which game(s) are you currently interested in playing with us, and do you currently have characters playing in game? If so what are their names? Which realm? Which platform? A. Currently, only FFXIV would be my game in OSD. Possibly ESO if I get back into it, but I usually only have 1 MMO on the go at once. My current character is named Talnoy Lasher on Diabolos (PC). Q. This is the getting to know you portion of the questionnaire. Please tell us a little about yourself. (Hobbies?Family? Pets? School? Work? Any super hero or super villain abilities, nefarious schemes we should know about?) A. Well, I was born at a young age... But seriously, I'm 26M from Ontario, Canada just outside of Toronto. Living at home currently as I try to get a career off the ground in Business and Tech. Graduated uni with a BA and post grad certificate in Corporate Communications and PR. Two cats at home and working at Geek Squad right now to pay the bills! I'm a super open friendly guy who loves discussion, learning and philosophy. I love talking about the stuff people aren't supposed to talk about - religion and politics! Q. Why do you want to join OSD? What is it you are looking for in a guild? How do you think you can best help this community? How can this community best help you? A. I want a gateway into FFXIV and OSD stuck out in my preliminary research into a good FC to join. I went around to the official FFXIV forums and saw a great community interaction which is a thing a lot of guilds miss out on. I love the fact it's a mature guild too. I'll help out OSD by (eventually!) being a great endgame PVE player. I used to raid a LOT in the WoW days, and was top DPS in an old guild called 'The Enclave' where we were top 100 in clearing 25 man Naxxramas after Wrath came out...ah the good old days. OSD can help me simply by providing the vehicle to get me leveled, experienced and integrated! Q - What lead you to our website and ultimately to filling out this application? (Which Friend? Website? In game ad? Psychic Magnetism?) A. As I said before - the official forum for FFXIV was the place I found OSD, and I read through the recruitment thread there. It was really the way things were presented - everything was professional, easy to follow, and awesome. (The good grammar helped too!) Q. What is your typical game play schedule like? Please include Times and Time zones. A. Currently my schedule is a little nuts seeing as I work two jobs, but generally I put in a few hours each weeknight from 7-11pm EASTERN time. Weekends are more sporadic, but generally around the same times. Q. What is the best game you have ever played and why? A. Ever!? Oh god...that's a tough one. I'll have to go with Chrono Cross for the original Playstation. Tons of characters, unique battle system that to this day hasn't been iterated or expanded upon to my woe, multiple TRULY different endings and a soundtrack that can make you cry. What's not to love? Q. What platforms do you usually game on? If not just a PC, which consoles? A. PC and PC only for now. Q. Tell us a little about your experience with MMOs. Which MMOs have you played and how long have you played for? A. Used to play WoW since Burning Crusade but left it after Cataclysm. Just kind of burned out as the challenge wasn't there anymore. My next MMO was Elder Scrolls Online which I played for about 7 months and then had to go back to full time school and work two jobs....just didn't have the time anymore. Q. What is your favorite part of a MMO and why? (Leveling, PvP, Raiding, Community, Roleplaying, Crafting, Achievements, Exploration, etc) A. PVE and Raiding. To a lesser extent the story and exploring. There's nothing quite like an MMO where you get that grand sweeping feeling you're part of a DAMN good team of people who just kicked ass. Coming together and completing a raid is intoxicating. Q. Are there any future MMO's or multiplayer games you're interested in playing? A. Star Citizen. Q. OSD is more than just a guild in a single game. We are a community of gamers that come together through the forums and Teamspeak. Do you plan on being active on the forums and use TS? What are your thoughts on using event calendars on the forums to coordinate guild events? A. My life's a busy one - but the fact you've got a TS and calendar means I can schedule time and not be one of those random faces that shows up once a month to check in and reap all the benefits of being in the guild. Q. OSD has earned and prides itself on a reputation of respect, maturity and integrity. Please read the OSD CODE OF CONDUCT. If you violate any of these rules you jeopardize the reputation of our community and will face disciplinary action up to, and including, removal from this community. Do you understand, and agree with this rule? A. NEVER! (Joking joking...of course I do!) Q. We will never force you to participate in any activity or event that falls outside your playstyle of choice. However, from time to time, you may be asked to help the guild out if we are short on a particular role or just need to fill up an empty group spot. For example, if you happen to be a tank built character, and we need to fill out a raid spot with a tank, we may ask you to come along and help out the raid. Or if we happen to be outnumbered in a PvP battle, we may ask you to come help us bolster our numbers and even the playing field a little. What are your thoughts on this topic? A. Everyone on a team should help out because they want to, not because they're told to. If the community about helping out of want and mutual respect, I'm all for it. I'd never want to have someone begrudgingly say "oh god...now we have to have Talnoy come and help with PvP...hate that guy." I want them to say "Talnoy always helps out with a smile - let's call him up!" Q. Pretend you are raiding with the guild and after the final boss fight an uber fantastic, stupendous, ultra rare, sparkly item drops. Who do you think should receive this item and why? A. This mainly depends on how items are being distributed - DKP, Suicides, rolls, etc but I found with my time in The Enclave in WoW the Suicide system works best: Each player enters the raid with one call of "Suicide" on an item. When a boss drops an item you want (for any reason - not just to gear out your main) you type "Suicide!" in the chat. Each player to suicides (if more than one) then /rolls for the item. Highest number wins. The player who wins the item then has their 'Suicide' call removed and cannot call suicide on any more items during that raid. If nobody calls Suicide on an item, anyone who 'needs' gets a roll for it before 'greed' rolls determine the winner. This keeps things fair, and prevents one guy from having RNGesus on his/her side and winning 10 items in one raid. Q. Is bacon awesome? What form does bacon manifest in your dreams? A. I'm from Canada - so hell yes bacon is awesome. Especially back bacon... mmmmmmmmmm Cheers to reading through all this and I hope to be in game with OSD very soon!
