My initial thoughts were sometime in late July - early August. That gives us some time to plan and get time off. As for location somewhere near a body of water. Either a lake or ocean. We haven't had one of those yet. Let's figure out a time range we're good with first.
Me likey! After March alot of my other hobby (SCA Earl Marshal of a Kingdom) responsibilities are done.
Something ocean/lake sounds really cool. It's too bad that Lake Mead and Powell are so low as a house boat rental could be really unique. It would definitely cost a percentage more, though. Just did some quick checking where a 59' for 6 nights on Mead would run a bit over 5k. Myrtle Beach always surfaces for ocean rentals, as well.
Late July or early August is good here. There's lots of nice lakes in Ontario cottage country! Although it's probably easier for the one Canadian to come to the US than it is for all the Americans to come here lol.
I do not know if I could make it, but I sure as well try. Who else will bring something actually good to drink?
while i dont have time for homebrewing anymore, i definitely will bring something good to drink as the others, i definitely want to come and will do so if the timing works.
Sooo...I don't want to put a damper on the boat idea, but I won't be able to sleep on a boat. I don't want you guys to change plans for my sake by any means, but it's something that I can't do. I have a CPAP machine that I need when I sleep. It has a water reservoir in it for humidity in the air it blows into the mask, and it needs to be kept still to avoid the water flooding down the air hose and into my lungs. And, well, boats move when waves happen. Griff then breathes water if that happens. That's not good lol.
Time to check out some options. Take a look and say which ones you like the most and why. i like the one in WV. its got hiking trails (aka birding trails for me ). it also seems to be pretty spacious. most importantly, i like that there are a few beds without footboards. i dont fit in beds with footboards. so that gives me more options. i also really like the one in redfield, ny for the same reasons, but its twice the drive for me, so all things being equal, id choose WV over NY. incidentally, the 2 in michigan are a stone's throw away from where i grew up. its beautiful up there! but theres NOTHING around. like one of the descriptions says, expect to drive an hour for anything... fancy? that said, i wouldnt be doing anything fancy anyway. just wanted to throw that out there so yall know. what are we thinking for a duration? 5 days? more/less?
All look good and within the 12 hour drive which is not a requirement just nice. Like Yndro, I like the WV one for amenities and hiking trails, but the outdoor bar at the Lancaster Penn one looks fun. So my vote would be 1) WV, 2) Lancaster Penn, 3-whatever whatever.
We've got several weeks of vacation already planned for this summer so I don't think we can add another week off. Lancaster, PA and Harpers Ferry, WV are close enough that we could come for a weekend or a partial weekend, though. It would need to be in July since we are visiting family August 4-12 and Mr. Kace is teaching after that. No worries if it doesn't work out!
I like the first one. It has the best lounging layout. It also has not only a wet bar in the basement, BUT ALSO A DECK BAR AS WELL! I also like the the lack of bunk beds in that one. Honestly, if we have it in PA, WV, or NY there is a better chance of me being able to go. Otherwise, I do not believe I could make it.
